How does HRT affect your period?

Verified by Dr. Jennifer Lincoln (she/her), MD, IBCLC
Our Answer
What our doctors say

Basically, HRT, by defintion, means the same symptoms as menopause (no longer getting a period). You might experience withdrawal bleeding. If using progesterone continuously, you may have some occasional spotting especially as you just start it. If your period has been gone for a while and then starts up suddenly, let your doctor know so they can make sure nothing concerning is going on.
