Why am I more hungry on my period?

Most causes of PMS symptoms (in this case, hunger) are from a faster metabolism rate leading up to your period, and hormones rising in your body. Your body is acting as if it is pregnant so your body is going to crave things rich in carbs and sugars to get enough nutrients in you.
Our metabolism is faster in our luteal phase (post ovulation) due to the hormone progesterone. We need 200-500 more calories during this phase. It’s normal to be more hungry as caloric intake increases. Some research suggests that changes in the levels of the hormones estrogen and progesterone cause cravings for foods rich in carbohydrates and sugars before a period.
