Introduce yourself! Who are you?

My name is Grey... I'm a 24 year old gender fluid, AfroIndigenous multi-media artsit. I'm known as a curator, musician, and vigilante based in New York and Los Angeles. The work I do is dedicated to raising the vibration of the planet through art and fellow artists.

What do you do?

I'm not completely sure what I do. I try to be a good person for the most part. I try to follow my heart and do a bit of everything I love. I'm focusing more right now on music and oddly enough cooking. I feel like music and food are two very huge outlets for me that I've dabbled in when it comes to work life--but I want to answer less emails and sing more songs soon.

How did you find your passion and purpose?

I think it all was given to me. I truly don't believe I've had to do much more than nurture this soul. Because I came with seeds planted inside of me, these ideas of who I was and what my life would be about, I've just had to believe in and invest kindness into myself. It's very hard to invest kindness into yourself but I'm learning how to do it slowly but surely.

How does menstruation exist in your life?

I actually have what I call life or death periods. I've got some sort of blood disorder and experience intense hemorrhaging. So, the pandemic has actually provided me so much time to learn more about that and how to work on my period safely. Before I had to work on my feet and be out of the house for hours and I wasn't afforded the luxury of resting while I work. I've gone to the hospital with less than 30 minutes left to live during fashion week in New York because of my period. It's a gift and a curse, it makes me have to slow down and care for myself in ways I'm not sure I would've done in my 20's.

Do you have a funny period story?

Well, a memorable one was getting my period and hemorrhaging on my very first date with my partner which was also my birthday. It was very late and I had bled through my mini skirt and shorts. I was so scared to speak up and say that we needed to pull over while on this road trip in the middle of the California desert but I did. My partner literally laughed at me for being embarrassed and told me I had been dating too many cis straight men eventhough I hadn't dated any hahaha. Then they took me to the restaurant of my choice to use the restroom and gave me their vest to sit on and bleed on for the rest of the night. Also they got me tacos and a milkshake. And ever since whenever I get my period and start to hemorrhage they will take the clothes off their back for me to sit on or wrap around my waist during an emergency scenario.

What advice would you give to younger menstruators out there?

Stay away from any pain meds that thin your blood and dont have dairy while you're cramping.

What’s your favorite August product? Or why does August resonate with you?

The camel sweatshirt of course, it's a staple in my closet!
