An Interview With Winner Ringo from the #InnerCycle
Team August
|
6.10.2021

We sat down with our first non-menstruting #Innercycle community member Winner, who has been supporting us since early 2020 when the Geneva page was created. He and his brother Isaac have been familiar faces on all of our round tables, focus groups, and community events. We love when people who don't menstruate join our community to learn how to best support the people with periods in their lives! Click here to sign up!

Introduce yourself! Who are you?

I am Winner Ringo. I'm a Musician in and out, heart and soul. I'm also a Filmmaker, creative genius, and a nice guy, shout out to the fine boy gang no cap.

My brother and I are a musician duo known as "The Chesed," (check us out at @thechesedband or my personal account @winnerlringo) and are also members of the August Inner Cycle. We are passionate about breaking the conversational stigma around periods in Nigeria.

How did you find your passion and purpose?

I found my passion by paying attention to my heart and what I love, if I can die for it then I consider myself passionate for it. I give attention to what my heart goes after and what I find happiness and fulfillment in. In finding my passion I hope to find myself inspiring people, bringing hope, and becoming that shining light for others.

How does menstruation exist in your life?

I don't have a period but menstruation does exist to me in a big way in because I have a sister and friends who are menstruators. Someday I'll be a husband and father too, so when anyone in my close circle is on their period, that's a time that I want to be there for them and support them the most.

I #supportperiods because we want to create a stigma free environment for my younger sister. We joined the August Inner Cycle so we could learn how to best support our younger sister Joy-EL, who is a 15yr old high school senior, aspiring fashion designer and an all-round life companion. We support her by buying her menstrual products, and doing all we can to create an environment that is healthy, secure, and open for period conversations.

What advice would you give to younger menstruators out there?

Having a period is powerful! My advice is to never surround yourseld with people who make you feel embarrased of your period, it's a beautiful thing so be proud of it.

What’s your favorite August product? Or how does August resonate with you?

As I said, I don't menstruate, so my favorite August products have got to be the hoodies! They're so beautiful, and anytime I see them I have it fresh in my head to be there for every menstruator in my life-- whether it's mentally, physically or emotionally. Also I was born in the month of August so anytime I see that August trade mark I feel special.
