Happy National Non Profit Day!

8.16.2021

This National Non Profit Day, we are donating 50% of the proceeds from our sales made on 08/17 to our non profit partner: No More Secrets! No More Secrets is a Philedelphia based period non profit working to fight period stigma by providing free access to menstrual supplies and period health education at their menstrual hub called THE SPOT. As a pillar of their comumunity, Lynette and her daughter have grown to provide resources outside of just period care.

On top of running the nations first and only menstrual hub, Lynette and Nya make daily drips in their personal vehicle to menstruators with disabilities or other factors that prevent them from stopping by in person. The multiple trips back to The Spot are not only taxing, but limit the distance and time Lynette has for deliveries. Thus the idea to purchase a utility van, affectionately named " The Menstrual Mobile " was born. We are so inspired by all the work that they do and are commiting as many resources in our capability to make that dream a reality.

The Menstrual Mobile will be the 1st of its kind in the world and will travel around the NATION decreasing stigmas about the Menstrual cycle and increasing open conversations about periods!

If you have been hesitating on subscribing to August, now is your chance to try our period care and actively fight period poverty at the same time. Head to itsaugust.co/shop to try August and to THIS LINK to donate directly to the Menstrual Mobile!

Introduce yourselves, who are you and what do you do?

I’m Lynette Medley the founder and CEO of No More Secrets Mind Body Spirit Inc. and the Cofounder of The SPOT Period.

Why is the issue of period poverty so important to you?

Period Poverty is an intentionally devised social justice construct to oppress BIPOC and other marginalized communities.

When addressing Menstrual hygiene as merely a women’s issue and in a silo, it insinuates that menstrual products themselves such as tampons, pads, liners menstrual cups etc. are the solution to the patriarchal and misogynistic ideologies of Menstrual care and management.

This puts an unfair burden on menstruators, forcing our most vulnerable communities to actively engage in high risk behaviors and use unsafe methodologies to cope with their Menstrual hygiene; rather than looking at the lack of menstrual health care as a broader oppressive social construct.

What is The Spot and what services/resources do you provide?

The SPOT (Safety Programming Optimal Transformation) Period Menstrual Hub was opened on February 20th 2021 by myself and my daughter Nya totally through crowdfunding efforts. During a national pandemic The SPOT was created to expand our current services in an attempt to reach more families and provide a comprehensive approach to Menstrual wellness. We have created a safe nonjudgmental space to provide acceptance, understanding, education, period care, period resources and access to clean water and operable toilets to marginalized women and girls to aid them in reaching their full potential. We are inspiring them to believe in themselves and realize that just like ourselves we are so much more than an overlooked societal statistic.

That is #blackgirlsbleed and why did you start this movement?

Our #BlackGirlsBleed movement seeks to address systemic racism and oppression in the menstrual health space by amplifying authentic voices of Black menstruators and experiences of BIPOC-owned and lead organizations addressing menstrual equity – an area historically dominated by white perspectives; to ultimately decrease generational silence and stigma surrounding menstruation in Black communities. BIPOC individuals consistently have their voices muted and ignored, and their own menstrual experiences nullified and rejected, thus, it is dire to acknowledge menstrual equity as an intersectional issue .

So, follow, engage, read, and listen to BIPOC menstrual experiences, as true, equitable, menstrual justice cannot be achieved without racial justice. Menstrual equity is often highlighted as affordability, accessibility, and safety of menstrual products. Menstrual equity expands far beyond just products, it’s also imperative to provide our communities with education , resources , and multiple options to manage their menstrual hygiene and health.

How did the idea of the van come to life?

It’s an expansion or extension of our desire to meet our communities where there are and provide comprehensive education services and supports to decrease health disparities in vulnerable populations. It’s well known that these individuals have the highest instances of Fibroids, Endometriosis, PCOS etc. so it’s imperative to develop a harm reduction model to combat this epidemic.

We hope to improve our period advocacy and benefit our community with the van by providing access to Menstrual health care to disadvantaged persons and physically bringing our services to them.

Although menstrual care and Uterine Wellness are essential to whole-body health, it's often last on the list for low-income families, elderly individuals, and other disadvantaged members of our community

How can people contribute and support No More Secrets in reaching the $20,000 goal?

Through our GoFundMe, Venmo, Cashapp or PayPal! Find all of those links on our website.
