What's in Our Period Care: The Breakdown

From where your products are made, to what's in them, to how to dispose of them, here is a quick 4 minute read for you to learn about the lifecycle of your August period care!

Origin: What's in your pad?

Our pads are manufactured in China and are made out of 100% organic cotton sourced from Turkey. They are plastic-free and 100% biodegradable within 12 months.

Our pads and liners are made of 100% organic cotton, biodegradable fluff pulp, FDA-approved food-grade glue so they stick to your undergarments, and Japanese super absorbent polymer (also biodegradable!).

Like our tampons, They are toxin-free, chemical-free, fragrance-free, pesticide-free, hypoallergenic, and FDA approved.

Our day pads can hold up to 60 ml of liquid and our night pads can hold up to 80 ml of liquid!

Origin: What's in your tampon?

Our tampons are manufactured in Germany and made from 100% organic cotton sourced from Turkey. They have a plastic-based applicator and open axially after being inserted. They are toxin-free, chemical-free, fragrance-free, pesticide-free, hypoallergenic, and FDA approved.

You can find this info if you scroll down on our product page and go to the interactive diagrams for each product or check out the materials tab.

The light tampons hold up to 5ml, the regular tampons up to 8ml, and the supers up to 12ml!

Origin: What's in our packaging?

Starting with the wrappers, the wrapping on each individual pad and tampon is fully biodegradable, while the tampon applictors are recyclable when washed.

As for the product boxes, all individual product boxes are made of recycled materials, and recyclable--just remember to rip off the plastic sticker holding the box closed as that is not biodegrdable.

Finally, the shipping boxes are made of recycled materials and are fully biodegradable as well as recyclable. While the packaging of individual products has August branding, the outer boxes that they will be shipped in will look like normal, plain cardboard boxes!

Conclusion: How to dispose of your period care

Used tampons, pads, and liners: Landfill

Pad, tampon, and liner wrappers (minus the tampon applicator): Landfill

Tampon applicator: Into the recycling bin after being washed-- this depends on your local trash rules, so be sure to look those up before recycling!

Individual product boxes: Recycling bin or landfill

Shipping boxes and packing paper: Recycling bin or landfill

Our period care and wrappers should only be disposed of in regular trash/waste, and should biodegrade in landfills within 1 year. They don't go in your compost bin just because they are fully biodegradable. Compost is used to nurture healthy soil and plants. While our products with technically break down all the way, they aren't a nutritious meal for a growing plant.
