June is a very exciting month for August period care because it marks the 1 YEAR ANNIVERSARY of our products being out in the world.

If you’re new to the August fam, here’s a recap of the meaning behind our favorite sayings! Or, maybe you’re an original #InnerCycle member (before products had even launched!) and just here to get nostalgic with us <3

1) For the community & by the community – our #InnerCycle

We believe in a world where all humans have their natural needs met with quality care. We aim to be a part of this necessary change, which we know requires time, patience, and conscious curation.

From the beginning, we have sought out input from our community to provide insights about what general period products they ACTUALLY like to use, what they don’t like about current offerings, and what questions they have about the menstrual experience.

The #AskAugust database was actually created from the very first Inner Cycle zoom call where the attendees landed on a discussion about the lack of free, reliable, accurate, and comprehensible information about periods & reproductive health. From there, we grew the August Medical Board and still consistently answer questions that come in from the community!

2) Periods are powerful, after all, they make human life possible.

We are redefining and reimagining the period experience to be powerful, as a creative and carefully curated lifestyle brand made with, by, and for, everyone who menstruates.

Powerful in our impact. Powerful in the way we talk about periods. Powerful. Period.

3) Most pads take 500-800 years to decompose. Ours take 12 months.

If you’ve been around long enough you might even be sick of this stat…but sorry lol we’re not! Seriously though, let it sink in. 500-800 years to decompose means that every plastic-filled pad EVER worn is still sitting on Mother Earth. But if you were one of the original August subscribers, then your pad has officially FULLY biodegraded into the earth by now.

TLDR: August pads are plastic-free, made with 100% organic cotton, Japanese Super Absorbent Polymers (SAPs) and food-grade glue. Read about them on our Traceability page!

4) Not all menstruators are women, and not all women menstruate

August is for everyone who menstruates – regardless of gender, race, culture, abilities and socioeconomic backgrounds.

Consider the trans & non-binary menstruators, the people who are now post-menopausal, or menstruators who had to get a hysterectomy, among others. The menstruating population is a diverse one.

5) Sustainable period care that ACTUALLY works

When we say “actually works” we mean, actually works. Due to the design of August tampons, pads, and liners (which you can read about here), liquids stay locked and your underwear stays leaf-free.

6) Rep the flow!

No more of that blue dye in period product ads! No more hiding your tampon up your sleeve! The period product industry sold us one narrative that has kept us silent and ashamed of our bodies. We’re here to put an end to that.

As a community of both menstrautors & non-menstruators, we’re working to destigmatize the menstrual experience and take away any shame that someone may have about having a period.

Our hoodies were actually our way of ‘repping the flow’ before our period products even came out. It’s been pretty cool seeing people out on the streets with the bold statement “PERIODS MAKE HUMAN LIFE POSSIBLE” across their chest.

7) Dignified periods.

Ever wondered how we chose our name?

Reason #1 of why we’re called August is because at its core, ‘August’ means majestic & dignified.

Reason #2? Well, August is a month…and you know what else comes (in theory) every month…😉

8) #OnMyPeriod & #BeyondMyPeriod

If you’ve stuck by us over the last year, you’ve most definitely seen these hashtags thrown around!

It started with #OnMyPeriod, to showcase that life goes on when you’re bleeding out of your vagina. Day-to-day activities, athletes, artists, scientists, etc. don’t typically stop what they’re doing while 80mL of blood comes out of them. (Unless they have a more serious underlying period disorder then please, grab a heating pad and rest up!)

But then we started hearing more retro stories about the period experience. As well as from people who were post-menopause or who had stopped having a period for other reasons. Thus, the #BeyondMyPeriod hashtag was born. This hashtag represents the linear storyline of the progress that older generations made in order for Gen Z to continue fighting for period rights! We’re building a bridge over a flowing river of period activism!

9) We’re here for you

This is our go-to sign off in emails, texts or captions. As a subscription-based period care brand, our main goal is to be here for you when you’re on your period. But as a community brand, we’re here for you off your period as well.

Thanks for being a part of our first year as a period care brand. We truly can’t wait to continue reimagining periods alongside you.
