Why is my period experience different from every other menstruator I talk to? Is that normal?

Honestly, it great that you're even having those conversations comparing periods because that is exactly what August is trying to do - to educate and get those open conversations happening. If you are experiencing pain or irregularities very often, or having pain that lasts for more than 2-3 days, go see a doctor just to check in. Everyone's body is slightly different so it is common to have slightly different symptoms, but remember, severe pain is NOT normal.
Pain is not normal for those who have periods, unless they have an underlying disorder or infection. Unusual pain is defined as lasting for more than 2 or 3 days. If you are finding that your symptoms are drastically different than other menstruators you are chatting to, please go check in with a doctor to figure out what could be wrong.
