At August, sustainability is a core value.
From the beginning, we've dedicated ourselves to creating organic, comfy, and inclusive period products with our planet in mind.
In 2023, in order to take action against our plastic use, we partnered with Plastic Collective to invest in the proper collection and recycling of ocean-bound plastic. As part of that first three-year commitment (2023-2025), we funded the collection and recycling of 22 tonnes of plastic annually through the Greencore project, totalling 66 tonnes (66,000 kg) over three years.
That partnership was a huge milestone for us. But our sustainability efforts do not end there.
We're renewing our commitment for 2026-2028.
We've renewed our partnership with Plastic Collective for another three years. From 2026 to 2028, we're investing in plastic credits that fund the collection and recycling of plastic each year, plastic that would otherwise end up in the environment.
The initiative we are now working with is the ASASE Foundation in Ghana.
Since August is made for and by our community, we are excited that our new project partner shares that same community-first approach. The ASASE Foundation Project is a Plastic Collective-certified recovery and recycling project operating in a plastic pollution hotspot in Ghana, with a women-led governance model focused on community-based waste management.
The project prioritizes fair wages, safe working conditions, and empowerment opportunities, particularly for women. That focus aligns closely with August's broader impact mission.
What does "100% net recycled at end of life" mean?
Achieving 100% Net Plastic Recycled means that the equivalent weight of plastic we place on the market is permanently removed from the environment and recycled through independently certified recovery projects, beyond what would have occurred under a business-as-usual scenario.
This does not mean that our products contain no plastic, nor does it suggest instant circularity. It means that for every purchase you make, we invest in credits that equate to the collection and recycling of the same amount of plastic.
This claim is made in line with recognised guidance and regulatory expectations, including ISO 14021, World Business Council for Sustainable Development guidance, and the US FTC Green Guides. It is supported by public disclosures, registry-listed serial numbers, and annual reconciliation conducted by Plastic Collective.

Reducing our plastic footprint.
Plastic credits are only one part of our approach. August's longer-term goal is to reduce our overall plastic footprint and to make our plastic use more circular. Plastic credits will be used to compensate for our footprint for the time being and we will be reassessing the credits needed every year. In order to continue working towards our goal, we have made the following changes to reduce plastic across our products and packaging:
-
Eliminating PE tampon wrappers
-
Transitioning plant-based compostable pad wrappers to paper
-
Removing plastic film from online retail packaging
-
Transparently accounting for remaining plastic components
But our sustainability efforts do not end here.
We acknowledge that sustainability will always be a work in progress. We will continue to explore strategies to reduce our plastic waste. August is excited to stay up to date on innovation in the plastic space as we continue working towards reducing our plastic use and making our plastic more circular.
