Why do I have more gas when I’m on my period?

Sometimes you may experience bloating just before your period. This is because of water building up in your body from the hormone called progesterone dropping. Tips:

  1. be kind to your body, bloating is natural, and it will pass but no matter what, your body is doing its thing so let it be as is.
  2. Drink more water or eat foods that have high contents of water (i.e., celery, watermelon, cucumbers) - this will remind your body to go pee and release any built-up water!
During certain phases of the menstrual cycle, as progesterone drops, cells retain more water. This can cause a bloated feeling in the belly and even in fingers and feet. Although it may seem counterintuitive, drinking more water or eating natural diuretics like watermelon, celery and cucumbers also will help. This signals the body to release its excess water as you urinate more frequently and get your kidneys working.
